Babcock and Wilcox is laying off 90 of its’ front line full-time work force at its’ plant in Cambridge. That works out to 30-per cent of its’ hourly staff.

The company blames a slow down in nuclear parts manufacturing.

The cuts are based on company projections for the next year, and say that even though they operate in several countries including Mexico and China, they will not be out sourcing work there.

Workers received their notices in early November, with the layoffs to take effect in January.

Babcock and Wilcox will offer employee assistance services to those workers.
