Layoff notices have been handed out to 90 workers at Babcock and Wilcox in Cambridge.
The layoffs were announced November 9th, but it’s just becoming public now.
The company is dealing with a bit of a lull in business but Manager of Public Relations Natalie Cutler tells 570 News if things pick up again, those 90 workers will be brought back, “B and W has been able to stay afloat and weather quite a few storms in very tough times. You know, we’re still here and we hope that we can remain here and be able to continue offering work for the community in our shops.”
These 90 workers made equipment for the nuclear and power-generating boiler industries, “You know, we have been through these fluctuations before and there’s a cyclical nature to our business. We provide engineering to many of our customers, which obviously doesn’t entail too much work in our shop.”
Cutler says at this time no other layoffs are planned and again says if work picks up, those 90 workers would get called back.
