There are at least three local connections to Sunday’s 100th Grey Cup which will be played at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.
The Toronto Argos and Calgary Stampeders will kick off at 6pm.
Oakville’s Joel Reinders, a University of Waterloo product, will be trying for his first championship in his first CFL season.
“Personally for me to play in front of my hometown family and friends…it will be a good time.” Reinders told 570 News.
Reinders says they are prepared for a loud crowd following the East Final against Montreal last weekend, adding it was the loudest game he has ever been a part of.
He also has NFL experience with the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants.
Reinders got his start in basketball, but frustrated over lack of playing time, he switched to football in his fourth and final year at university.
Calgary has punter Rob Maver who went to the University of Guelph. Laurier’s Justin Phillips is on the team’s injured list, so he will not be playing in the Grey Cup.
