Officials from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation were in Elmira last night for a public meeting.

They are asking the community to reconsider their opposition to a casino.
Back in 1999, residents were dead set against allowing slot machines at the Elmira Raceway.

An OLG spokesperson tells CTV the idea behind the meeting was to make sure residents and local politicians have all the facts before making a decision.

Woolwich Township Mayor Todd Cowan stresses, no decisions have been made and they simply wanted to hear what OLG had to say.

Still, he says, “It is imperative, as Township Councillors and representatives of the community, that we explore every possible source of revenue in an effort to deal with our ongoing infrastructure deficit while also adhering to our responsibility of keeping taxation rates manageable and sustainable”.
