With now less than a month to go until the official start of winter (December 21st) and flurries expected over the weekend, area municipalities, including the City of Waterloo are ready for the challenge.

“Our salt-shed is full and ready to be used if salt needs to be distributed on the streets. All our pre-wetting anti-icing material is in stock and available for the trucks at hand,” said Mark Dykstra, Acting Director of Transportation with the City of Waterloo.

Dykstra said the city also has 24-hour shift coverage in place, in case of any ice or snow event.

“As soon as we feel there is a need to address issues for minimum maintenance standards, we’ll be out there. Even if, as an example, of anti-icing on some cool days and nights that are occurring right now, folks will see the bridges treated with our anti-icing materials,” said Dykstra.

Snow at intersections, in the uptown Waterloo core, or if there ever happens to be too much snow on the ground to simply push onto the boulevards, that snow is hauled to the City of Waterloo’s snow dump in the Northfield business park.
