Teachers and students from schools around Waterloo Region are joining together in a movement for global change today.
We Day was created by Free the Children and Me to We as an empowering event for Grades 6 to 12 to engage and become active global citizens.
Six-thousand kids are expected at the event taking place at the Aud in Kitchener from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Marc Kielburger, one of the founders of Free the Children said the foundation, started by him and his brother, has actively transformed philanthropy from the least cool thing into the coolest.
He says the day gets students discussing their role as global citizens as they listen to well known speakers share their experiences.
The guest speakers include Martin Sheen, Shawn Desman, Anastasia A. and lots more.
The event is free for teachers and students who have earned their ticket by committing to take action on at least one local and one global issue.
We Day visits eight cities across Canada – Waterloo Region being the fifth venue this year.
It also kicks off a year long educational program that turns the conversations into actions.
