Six thousand students from schools around the region joined together in a movement for global change at We Day Wednesday at The Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex.
We Day was created as an empowering event for Grade 6 to 12 students to engage and become active global citizens.
Marc Kielburger, Co-founder of Free The Children Foundation which created the event, said the foundation, started by him and his brother, has actively transformed philanthropy from the “least cool thing into the coolest.”
Kielburger believes the day gets students discussing their role as global citizens as they listen to renowned speakers share their experiences.
There were many guest speakers including actor Martin Sheen, singers Shawn Desman and Anastasia A. and Spencer West.
We Day visits 8 cities across Canada and also kicks off a year-long educational program that turns the conversations into actions.
