The NDP is asking the House of Commons to adopt a motion calling for a national effort to fight bullying.
The motion from New Democrat MP Dany Morin follows a bullying-related death which has riveted attention across the country.
Morin says the suicide last week of Vancouver teen Amanda Todd in the wake of a long ordeal of school bullying highlights the problem and demands a solution.
He says it’s time for a national strategy to combat the problem.
A patchwork of programs and organizations tries to fight bullying now, Morin says, but the situation needs a co-ordinated approach.
He’s asking MPs from all parties to support his motion when it is debated later today.
