Fire Prevention Week

It’s Fire Prevention Week across the country and local fire officials want us to find two ways out.

Kitchener Fire Chief Tim Beckett tells 570 News they want families to talk about a home escape plan.

He says we need to take the time to actually talk about finding ways to get out of the home because when a fire does happen, you will need to know what to do, without having to think about it.

Beckett adds now that we are getting into the colder months and the holidays, the number of calls due to candles go up.  He says local firefighters also deal with a lot of cooking fires.  The message from fire officials: Don’t leave the candle or the pot
unattended.

This Saturday, the firefighter memorial will go at Kitchener Civic Park – near Centre In The Square.

Beckett says fire prevention officers will also be on hand with activities for children.  There will also be firefighter challenges.
