Pharmacists To Give Flu Shots

Flu shots will be offered in a new place this fall, at local pharmacies.
Around Waterloo Region and across the province, pharmacists will be able to administer the shot after Health Minister Deb Matthews announced the change at Queen’s Park Tuesday.
Rexall Vice President of Pharmacy, Tracey Phillips tells 570 News people already see their pharmacists more than any other healthcare provider so the change makes sense. She says all of their pharmacies in the Region will be offering the service, which will help to alleviate some of the strain put on healthcare system.
The Health Minister also changed regulations to allow pharmacists to renew non-narcotic prescriptions for up to 6 months, and to provide advice to people with chronic conditions.
Phillips says they’re very excited to be offering the additional care and support the Premier and Health Minister for listening and making these changes for all Ontarians.
She says the Ontario Pharmacists Association has been collaborating with the government for several years on improving healthcare access.
The shot will be available in stores starting October 22nd. Tthe pharmacies will be paid $7.50 for each shot they administer.
