Parade award winners

The weather was perfect for the 2012 K-W Oktoberfest Thanksgiving Day parade which attracted upwards of 200,000 spectators.

It also provided a much needed boost for the local food bank which received close to 15,000 pounds in food donations and over $12,000 in cash donations.

The parade featured dozens of floats, marching bands and other entries which made selecting winners in the various categories challenging.

The Festival Award, selected by the judges, was “The Old Lady in Her Shoe.”
Placing second was the “Pirate Ship” and third was the “Bear Float.”

The “Pirate Ship” was also the People’s Choice Float as it receive the most text votes.

Other winners were the City of Kitchener for best spirit and enthusiasm, the Greater K-W Chamber of Commerce Rolling Steins Float received the award for use of animation, Factory Shoe was honoured for the best visual float and Canadian Tire was recognized for community involvement.
