WRPS introducing online crime reporting

Waterloo Regional Police Service is planning to roll out an online reporting system.

This system be used for several types of non-emergency calls. At first letting residents to report thefts under $5,000, damage to property, theft of a vehicle and theft from a vehicle. All from the Waterloo Regional Police website.

According to a report being presented Wednesday morning at the Regional Police Services Board Meeting, one of the goals of the service has been to cut down the call demand on the road, and to give people new ways contact the police.

The early goal is to collect 200 online crime reports per month. These reports will be reviewed by a police officer for accuracy and for the potential to be followed up.

Regional Police are currently in the testing phase, and will soon be advertising this new system ahead of the planned launch date of October 29th.
