David Lindsay-Abaire’s ‘Good People’ declared nation’s most produced play this season

NEW YORK, N.Y. – David Lindsay-Abaire’s Tony Award-nominated play “Good People” tops the list of most produced plays nationwide during the 2012-13 season, according to the theatre industry’s largest trade group.

The Theatre Communications Group revealed on Monday that the Top 10 list also includes Bruce Norris’ “Clybourne Park,” Matthew Lopez’s “The Whipping Man,” the musical “Next to Normal” and Katori Hall’s “The Mountaintop.”

Interestingly, “A Raisin in the Sun,” first produced in 1959, also made the list. That’s in part because it was produced in conjunction with “Clybourne Park,” a play that drew inspiration from “A Raisin in the Sun.”

Lindsay-Abaire’s other works — including “Rabbit Hole” — have long been among the top produced works, but “Good People” marks his first time atop the list, which was compiled from 415 member theatres. Seventeen theatres will produce “Good People” this season.

The list began in 1994-1995 and omits holiday themed shows and Shakespeare works. The theatre group includes the list in its latest edition of American Theatre magazine.

“Good People” takes over last year’s top published work from John Logan’s “Red,” which dropped to No. 6 in this year’s list.
