Communitech to open action centre for laid-off RIM employees

Communitech will open an action centre for displaced Research In Motion employees at Waterloo City Hall next month.

Communitech’s Senior Director of Talent Networks, Karen Gallant, tells 570 News the newly created Tech Jobs Connex Centre will connect those former RIM workers to potential employers in the tech industry.

“We’ll be doing individual interviews with those former RIM employees, trying to help understand what their needs are, what their career goals are.  We’ll connect them with a career coach if that’s appropriate,” says Gallant.

Gallant says there are “lots of opportunities for people to transition into new jobs in some very rapidly growing companies.  We have a very active startup community.  We have about 450 or so startups.”

Gallant adds there are nearly a thousand tech companies in Waterloo Region, including over 400 startups, who are looking for top talent.

The Tech Jobs Connex Centre is set to open on October 15.
