BlackBerry service has now been restored in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Waterloo-based Research In Motion released the following statement to 570 News :
“Our apologies to any customers impacted by the BlackBerry service issue today. We can confirm that services have been restored and are now operating normally.”

BlackBerry announced the issues in postings on Facebook and Twitter, Friday morning.

No word yet on how many customers were impacted or how long the service was out for.

The outage brings up unpleasant memories of troubles with emails and chat messages last year that left users without service for three days.

In Canada and the United States, the outage was shorter, but many of the world’s 70 million BlackBerry users were affected.
