Manulife Financial Makes Big Donation

A special cheque presentation related to the first ever Manulife Financial LPGA Classic was made on Monday.

Manulife Financial Canada CEO, Paul Rooney, announced $250,000 will benefit St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation.

It was back in early February that St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation was selected as the official charity partner of the Classic, which was held in June at Waterloo’s Grey Silo Golf Course.

Hospital Foundation President Peter Sweeney called the donation fabulous and says some of the proceeds will help the volunteer program at the hospital and support the hospital’s Cardiac Care Centre.

Sweeney tells 570 News the community support for the event is paying big dividends and that the donation will go a long way.

Sweeney says with cardiac disease being the number 1 killer of women in Canada it’s an issue that more women need to know about.

Tickets for the 2013 edition of the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic go on sale October 1st and volunteers will able to register starting October 29th.

More than 66,000 spectators lined the fairways at Grey Silo to watch the first ever tournament this past June.
