Kitchener Council will deal with a request from an Islamic group to have property it owns in an industrial park re-zoned for worship.
Islamic Humanitarian Service imam Shafiq Hudda is speaking as a delegation to councillors. Staff is recommending they refuse the zone change.
Currently, the property owners can use up to 25% of their property, at 60 Washburn Dr., for worship under zoning by-laws. They would like to be able to use 100% for worship.
Mayor Carl Zehr said last week that Kitchener must preserve its employment lands, and he appears to be leaning towards refusal.
