Hamilton father to challenge school board in court

A father is taking an Ontario school board to court in a bid to end what he calls discrimination of his Christian beliefs.

Steve Tourloukis is asking Ontario’s Superior Court to force the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board to give him notice when lessons might contradict his religion.

Tourloukis says he wants to have the option of taking his children, a son in Grade 4 and a daughter in Grade 1, out of class when topics such as marriage, family and sexuality are discussed.

He says parents of other faiths are accommodated in this way and he wants equal treatment.

Tourloukis says this isn’t about his religious beliefs, rather it’s about a parent’s right to know what their children are being taught.

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board was not immediately available to comment.
