Elderly Pedestrian Killed In Waterloo

A hit and run accident in the City of Waterloo Tuesday morning has left an elderly woman dead.
Regional Police say 82 year old Ruth Hamilton of Waterloo was struck by a cube van as she tried to cross King Street at Hickory. The driver of the van failed to remain at the scene but was arrested a short time later in Uptown Waterloo.
Sergeant Scott Richmond tells 570 News the driver is facing a number of charges including fail to remain.
The driver has been identified as a 55 year old man from Wilmot Township.
Sgt. Richardson says the incident happened just before 10 o’clock and that the intersection was busy at the time. He credits a number of witnesses who stayed to help.
