A hot button issue

A “hot” issue will be coming to Kitchener City Council tonight.

Staff will present a draft by-law intended to tighten the rules on open air burning.

If passed, residents will be limited to six campfires a year, and the city will launch an online permit system, costing $10 per fire.

So far, there are eight delegations listed to speak on the issue before councillors make a decision.

Back in late June, the city directed staff to change the times people can have a fire, to between 7 and 11pm, and to report back with the revised bylaw.
