Laptops and smart phones have replaced sneakers and backpacks as the must have items during the back to school shopping season.

“Ten years ago it was always fashion trending more than tech; more money being spent on back to school clothes,” said Tina Wells, founder and CEO of Buzz Marketing, which tracks stopping trends.

The company found that laptops are leading the surge in tech sales. However, many families are still focused on being budget conscious.

Wells said multiple child households are putting more emphasis on children sharing big ticket back-to-school tech items.
