Romney selects Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as vice-presidential running mate

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has selected Congressman Paul Ryan as his vice-presidential running mate.

Speaking together for the first time at a Saturday morning press conference, Romney mistakenly announced Ryan as the next “president of the United States.”

Of course, should Romney and Ryan win, Ryan would become the vice-president and not president.

Romney is not the first to have a slip-of-tongue, with President Barack Obama doing the same in 2008 when he introduced Joe Biden.

The 42-year-old Ryan, a fast-rising conservative, is a generation younger than the 65-year-old Romney.

Ryan characterized Romney as what America needs for a turn-around, saying he is glad to be part of the comeback team that will help return America to greatness.

By the time he reached his 30s, Ryan was a congressman with a reputation for pushing-the-edge with his budget proposals.

With the nomination, Ryan has now reached a new level of political standing.

His presence could help give Romney a boost in Wisconsin, a state where President Barack Obama easily won four years ago.
