West Nile

The Region of Waterloo Public Health has found a West Nile positive mosquito pool.

“We trap mosquitoes every week throughout the whole region, and one of these pools came back positive.”

Director of Health Protection Investigation, Dave Young gives 570 news some suggestions to avoid being bitten, “Wear long sleeve shirts and pants, especially in dawn and dusk when mosquito’s are most active, you can wear bug nets if you want to, and definitely mosquito netting to protect young ones, and DEET for the adults, and older folks too.”

Young says from the 1st of August until we get some cooler weather is when people are most at risk of contracting West Nile from an infected mosquito.
