CBC wins rights to 2014, 2016 Olympic Games

The CBC has won the Canadian rights for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, and the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

The Canadian broadcaster covered 19 Olympic Games over nearly 60 years, most recently covering the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing.

Since then, Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium has been made up of a partnership between Bell and Rogers, who held the rights for the Vancouver 2010 Games and are currently covering the London 2012 games.

The International Olympic Committee rejected two joint proposals from The CBC and Bell – the owner of CTV – and one month ago, the two broadcasters announced they would no longer submit such proposals.
