A $17-million statement of claim has been filed by the family of Cassie Lam.
Stacey Stevens is a partner at Thomson-Rogers Law Firm, and tells 570 news they believe a number of people are at fault, including the driver of the bus, Grand River Transit, the City of Kitchener and the Region of Waterloo.
Stevens says the claim also seeks $300,000 in compensation for each family member who have had to care for Cassie since the accident.
The 16-year old suffered numerous injuries as she was hit by the bus at what was then the new traffic circle at Homer Watson and Block Line Road.
