RIM executive sends positive message to shareholders

Research In Motion Executive Vice-President of Global Sales, Rick Costanzo, says the company has a very positive message for shareholders today.

Speaking to 570 News on his way into the company’s annual general meeting, Costanzo said “we’re committed to actually turning around some of the recent performance.  We have a well-thought-out, very, very well-articulated plan to help us manage the bridge between where we are right now and to early next year with BB10’s launch.”

Costanzo there is still plenty of life left in the company.  “Where we are right now is far from game over.  So, if we can actually get BB10 done early next year, and do it with the quality that we actually intend, we believe that there’s still everything to play for and we’ll be extremely well-positioned to take advantage of that”, said Costanzo.

To put it into perspective, Costanzo says only 30 per cent of the “global cellular base” has actually converted from feature phones to smart phones.

Costanzo also says that despite its recent woes, RIM has no plans to leave Waterloo.  “It’s a decision that the board will absolutely take, but I can tell you from my knowledge that we have no plans of moving out of Waterloo.  Southwestern Ontario is home for us, and we expect to maintain that for a long time coming.”
