Close to 100 soon-to-be displaced Schneiders plant workers turned out for a meeting held by their union on Sunday.

It was called by the Schneider Employees’ Association and aimed at addressing their concerns as well as rumours that have been making the rounds.

A local newspaper reports the concerns ranged from the make up of closure agreement to exactly when workers would be losing their jobs.

They were told the agreement actually provides some better than expected severance provisions.

In terms of when the Courtland Avenue plant will close, that remains up in the air.
Workers were told Kitchener’s distribution warehouse work will be phased out next year, with the plant fully closed in late 2014 as Maple Leaf Foods opens a new processing plant in Hamilton.
