Hamilton’s Sharp close to home

The first ever Manulife LPGA Classic will be a homecoming of sorts for Alena Sharp.

She’s from Hamilton and used to play golf at the Brantford Golf and Country Club.

Sharp, who now lives in Arizona, tells 570 News it’s going to be an exciting week, with some of her friends coming out to watch her at Waterloo’s Grey Silo Golf Course.

She had a chance to get a round in there last August, adding the greens could prove tricky and players will need to be accurate off the tee.

“There’s always pressure playing in Canada…just going to do my best and treat it as any other tournament, and have fun and enjoy it.”

A women’s golf tournament of this calibre hasn’t been held in this area since 2006.

That year the Canadian Women’s Open was held in London.

Round one of the Manulife LPGA Classic starts tomorrow at 7am.
