Given a humidex advisory has been issued for Waterloo Region, with values expected to reach or exceed 40 degrees Celsius from today through Thursday, several city facilities are serving as cooling centres the next three days for people looking for relief from the heat.

Kitchener City Hall is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., while the Kitchener Market is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The following community centres are open at minimum 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

People are also encouraged to make use of air-conditioned shopping malls and local libraries as places to cool off.

The public is encouraged to call or visit family, friends and neighbours, especially isolated adults and seniors who are at greater risk of suffering from heat-related illness, to see if they require assistance.

Other at-risk groups include people with chronic and pre-existing illnesses, infants and young children, people on certain medications and those who are marginally housed or homeless.
