First heat wave of the season continues

The first real heat wave of the year rolls into it’s third day today as the temperature is again expected to hit the 30’s.

A Humidex Advisory remains in effect for our area.

Relief is in sight though as more seasonal conditions are expected to return tomorrow and into the weekend.

Environment Canada’s Senior Climatologist David Phillips tells 570 News that when things finally do cool off, it will be a nice return to normal – especially at night.

“It’s going to be so refreshing come (the weekend) – gorgeous Canadian air, the wind directions are going to come from the north with highs of 24 or 23 degrees and nights down to about 10 or 11…”

Phillips adds that what’s different about this heat wave, compared to the bursts of warm temperatures we’ve already experienced this year – are the overnight lows.

“Typically in the Kitchener area your temperatures are registering around 12 degrees really comfortable.  We’re going to see over the next three days 21, 22 degrees for the low temperature, so that’s going to seem a little stuffy and a little sticky and a lot of tossing and turning…”

As for whether or not this will not only be a hot week but a hot summer, Phillips is anticipating it will be a toasty one.
