Members of the Region’s South Sudanese community gathered outside Kitchener’s provincial courthouse to rally for what they say is an injustice against 19-year-old John James who was found dead behind Cameron Heights Collegiate in early May.

18-year-old Zachary Schultz was charged with manslaughter and released on bail. His lawyer was in court today to schedule further appearances. Outside the court house James’ mother Mary Nyak, speaking through a translator called for justice to be served for the her son.

Family spokesperson Philip Guy said they are pleased with the investigative process that Waterloo Regional Police have started but are asking for justice for the family. He said the family doesn’t understand why the 18-year-old suspect was granted bail.

John James’ body was found in a pathway near the Kitchener high school just before midnight on May 12th.
