The issue of local emergency services response times took centre stage at question period in Queen’s Park with Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Michael Harris questioning Health Minister Deb Matthews.

Regional Chair Ken Seiling on the Jeff Allan Show saying the current system in is inefficient. Seiling has been pushing for an amalgamated system after emergency responders were delayed getting to the helicopter crash at the region’s airport last November.

Former Regional Police Chief Larry Graville’s report into the crash, among other things, recommended a single system be put in place.

Matthews responded to Harris’ questions saying this fall a new system will be tested in 4 communities, including Waterloo Region and Guelph where both fire and EMS will be notified simultaneously when a call comes in.
