The next time you hop on a Grand River Transit bus in the Region – you may be on camera.

Surveillance cameras on about 190 GRT buses were turned on this week – an effort aimed in part at increasing drivers’ safety.

GRT Director of Transit Eric Gillespie, tells today’s Record the goal is to “detect or deter or investigate unlawful activity.”

Footage will also be used to assist in investigations involving disputes between drives and passengers and to investigate personal injury claims.

The camera policy will be reviewed in two years.
