Day 2 Of Rafferty Trial Closing Arguments

The trial of Michael Rafferty is nearing the end as closing arguments are expected to continue on Tuesday.

The man accused of killing eight-year-old Victoria Stafford, of Woodstock, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, sexual assault causing bodily harm and kidnapping.

The Crown will sum up their case after the defence team wrapped up their closing arguments yesterday. The jury heard from Rafferty’s lawyer, Dirk Derstine, who called in to question Terri-Lynne McClintic’s testimony calling her a “prolific and accomplished liar”.

Michael Rafferty’s mother spoke out for the first time since her son’s May 2009 arrest. Deborah Murphy blames her son Michael Rafferty’s situation on Terri-Lynne McClintic, who testified against him.

Speaking outside the London courthouse, Murphy says her son is “innocent and should be set free”. And Murphy adds that McClintic has wrecked the lives of her son and other members of the family.

McClintic pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and is serving a life sentence.
