Hunger Awareness Week

Donating to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region is like sharing a meal with over 25,000 of your neighbours.
Last year, more than 2.9-million pounds of food was donated to the local food bank.
Executive Director Wendi Campbell tells 570 News there are still a lot of families who are in need of help, but don’t use the food bank services.
This is Hunger Awareness Week and it comes following a one-day food drive over the weekend: DIG IN.
That effort saw almost 53,000 pounds of food donated to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank, Woolwich Community Services and Wilmot Family Resource Centre.
Campbell says one in 20 people living in the Region are in need of food assistance, and more than 35% are children under the age of 18.
Last year there were over 70 donation programs that helped provide over 65,000 food hampers and over 400,000 hot meals.
Campbell says items like canned fruit, cereal, canned meat and fish are in high demand.
