The Guelph Royals return to the Intercounty Baseball League this afternoon.

They will take on the Ottawa Fat Cats at 2pm at Hastings Stadium.

The Royals skipped the 2011 campaign because they couldn’t work out a new deal with the city to use the ball park.

Now, there is a five-year lease agreement in place.

Like the Kitchener Panthers, Guelph joined the IBL when it formed in 1919.

Jim Rooney is a managing partner with the Royals and tells 570 News there is plenty of buzz about their return to the IBL.

“We’ve had some terrific partnerships, the Guelph Chamber has come on board and we’re looking to have some community nights as well.” said Rooney.

“When we weren’t here it was a sad day, but we’re excited and happy and a few hours away from first pitch.”
