Behind the scenes political jockeying is well underway following word Elizabeth Witmer is resigning her seat as Kitchener-Waterloo MPP.

One potential candidate you can scratch off the list is Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Ian McLean.

McLean tells 570 News he is not throwing his hat in the ring adding he couldn’t be happier working at the Chamber.

McLean admits he has been asked whether he would consider seeking the nomination, but he says he is ruling that out.

McLean served as a Waterloo City Councillor prior to accepting the post at the Chamber.

His family has deep ties to the Conservative Party.
His father, Walter, served federally as an MP in the late seventies and through the eighties.

Witmer is leaving politics to take on the role of chair of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.

A byelection to fill the seat must be held within six months.
