Should roundabout navigation be part of your driving test?

A local MPP is pushing the Ministry of Transportation to add roundabouts to provincial driving tests.

Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Michael Harris sent a letter to the minister asking for the change when it comes to tests in Waterloo Region and other communities where there are roundabouts.

Harris says there are more than 30 such traffic circles in Waterloo Region.

“Adding roundabouts to the driving test would ensure that new drivers have a clear understanding on how to properly use roundabouts. This simple addition would go a long way to reducing the number of collisions at these intersections.”

He says putting a roundabout question on the written exam is a good first step.

But he adds “drivers with roundabouts in their community should have to successfully enter and exit a roundabout during their driving test in order to obtain their licence.”
