One person has been killed in a helicopter crash at The Region of Waterloo International Airport.

It happened just before 11:30 in the southeast corner of the airport property.

Waterloo Regional Police say a man and a woman were aboard the helicopter.

One person was taken to Grand River Hospital with spinal injuries before being airlifted to a Hamilton hospital.

The helicopter was a Robinson R22 which belonged to Great Lakes Helicopter.

The Transportation Safety Board has been called in an will be the lead investigator.
