RIM urged to get moving on study regarding possible leadership changes

There is reportedly a new drive for Research In Motion to get moving on conducting a study on possible leadership changes at the high tech giant.

RIM agreed to the study back in June amid an effort by a shareholder to overhaul the management structure.

Now, according to Bloomberg News, Northwest & Ethical Investments LP is threatening to push for an investor vote on separating the chairman and CEO roles.

Those posts are currently held jointly by Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis.

Northwest’s vice president of ethical funds, Robert Walker says there was a deal in which they were promised a role in the study in exchange for them withdrawing a proposal to split the roles.

The study is supposed to be complete by the end of January, but Walker says they have yet to have any substantial discussions about the review.

He says “We’ve had nothing,” other than promises of information.

Walker has thrown down the gauntlet, saying “We would file if we don’t see the report.”

For its part, the BlackBerry maker has told Bloomberg it will share a draft of the panel’s guidelines with Northwest, but it doesn’t say when.
