Waterloo Region is well represented on latest Fast 50 list

Professional services firm Deloitte released its annual Technology Fast 50 list today and a number of companies from Waterloo Region received some much deserved praise.

It’s a list that ranks Canadian companies based on their revenue growth over the past 5 years.

Number one on the list was Accedian Networks – a telecom and wireless company based in Quebec.  Accedian specializes in performance-monitoring solutions and over the 5-year period enjoyed revenue growth of over 50,000%.

Close behind in 2nd place with over 46,000% revenue growth was RTI Cryogenics out of Cambridge.  RTI Cryogenics also made Deloitte’s “Technology Green 15” list as well.

Third spot went to Avigilon Corp. from Vancouver, while another Waterloo company – the solar technology giant ARISE Technologies Corporation finished 6th with over 10,000

Despite its up and down year – Research in Motion made the list for the 14th consecutive year.  They finished 29th with 634% growth over the 5 year period.

26 Ontario companies made the list while 11 were from Quebec, 10 from B.C., 2 from Newfoundland and Labrador and just one from the province of Alberta.

In the “10 Companies-to-Watch” portion of the release, one company from Waterloo and another from Guelph made the list of companies that according to Deloitte are “…early-stage Canadian technology companies who have been in business less than five years, and have the potential to be future Deloitte Technology Fast 50 winners.”

Making the cut were Waterloo-based Enflick, Inc and Well.ca out of Guelph.

Deloitte also highlighted 4 Canadian companies for its “Leadership Awards” list.  According to the Deloitte website they see these companies as “…elite members of the Canadian technology industry, whose ability to create a distinct competitive advantage in a high-growth market allows them to dominate their sector and quickly join the ranks of other Canadian global leaders.”

Making that list locally was the Kitchener-based software company – Desire2Learn.
