Young boy dropped off at wrong bus stop

Two good Samaritans are to thank for the safe return of a 4 year old Cambridge boy.

That’s after the kindergarten student backpack tagging system failed, it puts the responsibility in the hands of the bus driver to check the kids are getting off at the right stop.

General Manager of Student Transportation Services Waterloo Region, Benoit Bourgault tells 570 News the driver has several responsibilities, like minding the traffic,

“Some stop locations, depending on density can be relatively large, that makes it somewhat difficult,” he said

The family is rattled, thinking of the what-ifs, Grandmother Lois Stark tells 570 News she wonders what the bus driver was thinking.

“If you had a 4 year old child, and opened your door and put him out on a busy street, the first thing you would do is look for the parent,” Stark’s voice trembling with emotion as she thinks about tragic cases like Tori Stafford, “never to be found and killed”.

Mother Andrea Stark says is a little more understanding, after hearing from the driver, “he sent his apologies to me through the Vice-Principle, and the Vice-Principle made it quite clear that (the driver) must check the tags, he needs to check the tags, he needs to make sure that every kid gets off at the right stop, even if it takes an extra five minutes,” she said.

Stark is now calling out to all parents of young kids, to make sure they have a bus safety plan in place.
