Expert: Air Canada strike impact would be minimal

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Customer service and sales staff at Air Canada could be walking the picket line as soon as Monday, but an airline analyst says most people probably wouldn’t even notice.

Airline analyst Scott Clute says he expects a minimal impact in Vancouver and most people wouldn’t even know there’s a strike.

He says international travellers might see longer line-ups at the airport because it would be Air Canada managers staffing the customer service department, and the boarding process is a bit more enhanced.

Clute says travellers would notice a difference if the unions representing pilots, flight attendants or mechanics decided to not cross the picket line.

The Canadian Auto Workers union, representing 3,800 workers, could issue 72 strike notice on Friday.

For now, it’s business as usual for Air Canada with the company hoping a settlement can be reached before job action is taken.
