Clean up continues

TORONTO – Chainsaws will be roaring across southern Ontario today as people clean up toppled trees and other damage following yesterday’s storms.

About 150-thousand Hydro One customers are still without power and many may not get their electricity back until  Sunday.

Spokeswoman Daniele Gauvin says there is extensive damage to power lines across the southern part of the province.

Five helicopters and crews will be out first thing today to check on the lines and organize the restoration.

Lightning strikes also started fires in at least five homes last night in Vaughan, north of Toronto, but no one was injured.

The storms caused damage in Haliburton County and the Kawartha Lakes and there were unconfirmed reports of tornadoes in the Minden Hills area near Peterborough.

Many Ontario communities set records yesterday as the temperatures soared, but today is expected to be a little cooler.
