Canada Post Strike

Unionized postal workers in Hamilton walked off the job last night for a strike that’s supposed to last 48 hours.

Hamilton is the second target of rotating strikes by the 50-thousand-member Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

The Hamilton walkout began as postal workers in Winnipeg ended their 24-hour walkout last night.

CUP-W says the rotating walkouts will continue until a good collective agreement is reached.

Meantime, the government says Ontario residents will be able to access critical Ontario government services during any disruptions caused by the postal strike.

Officials say no one will be refused emergency health care if their health card expires.

And for drivers with expiring licenses, a temporary licence is available through ServiceOntario centres or kiosks.

The government also says the Ontario Sales Tax Transition Benefit and the Ontario Child Benefit were delivered early.
