Wet start to Spring

When the final numbers are crunched, the spring of 2011 may go down in the books as the wettest one on record.

According to 570 News weather specialist John Wilson May saw 215% more rain than normal, following up March and April when rainfall totals were over 130% above average.

As for June, John expects the first half of this month to be above normal when it comes to the temperature, but overall, he’s expecting a slightly cooler than average summer.

He also forecasts a slightly wetter than normal summer.

The Weather Network says the three-month forecast is calling for average summer temperatures across Canada, with warmer conditions expected in the northern Prairies through to Nunavut.

Forecast Operations Manager Chris Scott cautions Canadians aren’t finished with the wet weather that’s soaked the country for most of May.

He says storm systems are expected to bring higher-than-normal precipitation for most of June from Regina to Montreal.

Scott says precipitation will likely return to average levels for July and August across the country.

The Weather Network’s predictions differ slightly from Environment Canada’s preliminary forecasts, which call for a warmer-than-average summer across the board.
