VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Rogers is just one of several mobile companies allowing customers to text ASIA to 30333 to donate to the Red Cross Japan disaster relief. While that amount may seem insignificant, there is power in the numbers.
Bas Brusche with the Red Cross says every penny you donate goes to Japan.
“The Red Cross doesn’t take anything from it, it goes straight to Japan. Next to that five dollars is a lot for a family who needs water, who needs food.”
And, he says, if you put a couple five dollar donations together it can really make a difference. “For $10, we can help a family with a bucket or a jerrycan to collect and store clean drinking water. If people spent $25, we can send blankets to a family.”
Brusche adds $3 million has already come in and that’s a great start. If everyone in Canada donated $5, roughly $170 million would be raised.
