Rocking your holiday radio

96.7 CHYM-FM is playing Christmas music around the clock.

The sister station to 570 News launched its 24-hour Christmas music programming last Wednesday morning at 8 AM, exactly one month from Christmas Eve.

Program Director Wendy Duff says it was an easy decision given the feedback the station has received from its audience over the years.

“CHYM-FM has polled listeners and we often ask them, ‘are we playing the right music, are we playing it often enough, are we playing it soon enough’,” Duff explains.

‘Round the clock Christmas music is in keeping with tradition at CHYM, which is well known for its focus on holiday spirit.

“We’ve been long-standing community partners with Family and Children’s Services with the “Tree of Hope” radiothon and we’ve devoted a lot of our airtime and a lot of our support to that annual campaign,” Duff reminds us. “This really wraps it up in a nice way to really embrace the Christmas season.”

Duff expects the 24-hour Christmas music to be popular in stores and other businesses and particularly with kids.

And you won’t just notice that festive programming when you turn on your radio.

“You’re going to see ads on GRT buses throughout the community, we’ve got television ads running and we’re also taking out newspaper ads,” says Duff. “We’ve decided to really say, ‘CHYM FM is your Christmas music station.’ And we’re going to say it loud and proud.”
