Another try at CO bill

The Woodstock MPP wants to make carbon monoxide detectors mandatory in all homes in Ontario.

Ernie Hardeman, the MPP for Oxford will reintroduce his private member’s bill next month.

OPP Const. Laurie Hawkins and her family died in their Woodstock home due to C-O poisoning in December of ’08.

He says carbon monoxide alarms are especially important in the winter months.

Hardeman said gas furnaces, kerosene space heaters and fireplaces are needed to stay warm, but they all have the potential to leak the gas, which can be deadly.

Health Canada says carbon monoxide is colourless, odourless and tasteless, and hard to spot without a detector.

Hardeman says his bill died before it received a third and final reading after the legislature shut down.
