It’s a day of remembrance and a day of education for residents of Kitchener.
The Kitchener Professional Firefighters Association is holding its Firefighters Family Funfest from 9 to 12:30 today.
It’s at the Civic Center Park on Queen between Margaret and Ahrens.
Firefighter Memorial Committee member, Cam Linwood says it will feature emergency services displays, fire safety – such as a simulated kitchen fire and other activities.
Then, at 12:45, the association will hold its 6th annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day.
It begins with the Firefighter Parade and Memorial Procession followed by a service at one.
This year, another firefighter will be added to the memorial wall: Gerry Oakley, who died this past January from Parkinson’s Disease which the association says he developed as a result of his career as a professional firefighter.
